The Petrobras’ NPA is a new settlement on a recent massive scheme of international corruption signed by the U.S. Department of Justice and a foreign multinational enterprise charged with bribery around the world. The article shows that this new deal confirms the leading role of the U.S. in the global fight against transnational corruption made by corporations and the ancillary role of the other foreign countries. Moreover, the deal provides some features that are becoming increasingly frequent in this type of agreements and constitute a sort of a new global anti-bribery compliance model.

Abstract

The Petrobras’ NPA is a new settlement on a recent massive scheme of international corruption signed by the U.S. Department of Justice and a foreign multinational enterprise charged with bribery around the world. The article shows that this new deal confirms the leading role of the U.S. in the global fight against transnational corruption made by corporations and the ancillary role of the other foreign countries. Moreover, the deal provides some features that are becoming increasingly frequent in this type of agreements and constitute a sort of a new global anti-bribery compliance model.
