The material for engineered barrier system (EBS) under development for the Italian LLW repository was discussed. The experimental activity underway for the mix-design identification for the cementitious barrier was also presented. The results indicated that the crack-free and long-term durable concretes and grouts can be manufactured even if exposed to aggressive environments.
