The essay is devoted to the analysis of two filmic remediation of Dante’s Inferno, both produced in 1911 respectively by Milano Films and Helios Films, two Italian production companies. Te films are interesting because they represent a crucial moment in national film history, between the so-called cinema of attraction and the linear narrative film. After defining the productive and cultural context in which the two movies are born, the essay devotes a specific attention to the presence of altered mental states in early cinema.
