The essay aims to focus on two Coptic words for monks (sauhes and remnuoth), attested by Saint Jerome (Ep. XXII, 34). These two words will be pointed out through a structural and systematic evaluation, in order to clarify not only their meaning but also their function in Jerome and where they were from. As a result the essay will analyse how Coptic is organic to Latin and, mutatis mutandis, Latin to Coptic in the testimony of Jerome, during the flowering of the literature written in Coptic language.

Abstract
The essay aims to focus on two Coptic words for monks (sauhes and remnuoth), attested by Saint Jerome (Ep. XXII, 34). These two words will be pointed out through a structural and systematic evaluation, in order to clarify not only their meaning but also their function in Jerome and where they were from. As a result the essay will analyse how Coptic is organic to Latin and, mutatis mutandis, Latin to Coptic in the testimony of Jerome, during the flowering of the literature written in Coptic language.File | Dimensione del file | Formato | |
