Giovan Francesco Straparola. Un letterato bergamasco a Venezia e le sue 'Favole ed enimmi'

The essay intends to focus initially on the historical, social and economic reasons that led Giovan Francesco Straparola, as well as many of his fellow countrymen, to move to Venice, following that conspicuous wave of emigration that characterized the relationship between the Bergamo area and the Most Serene already in the first half of the sixteenth century. The second part of the intervention will instead be dedicated to the Pleasant Nights (genesis, editions, structure, etc.) and the Venetian context in which they are set, with particular attention to what is probably the peculiar characteristic of the work, namely the space that it reserves for the fairy tale, of which many stories take on the typical themes and formal features.

Il saggio intende concentrarsi in un primo momento sulle ragioni storiche, sociali ed economiche che hanno portato Giovan Francesco Straparola, così come molti suoi conterranei, a trasferirsi a Venezia, seguendo quella cospicua onda di emigrazione che ha caratterizzato il rapporto tra il territorio bergamasco e la Serenissima già nella prima metà del Cinquecento. La seconda parte dell’intervento sarà invece dedicata alle Piacevoli notti (genesi, edizioni, struttura ecc.) e al contesto veneziano nel quale sono ambientate, con un’attenzione particolare a quella che probabilmente è la caratteristica peculiare dell’opera, ossia lo spazio che riserva alla fiaba, di cui non pochi racconti assumono i temi e i tratti formali tipici.
