The essay focuses on the presence of Mozart and Da Ponte as fictional characters in Italian narrative literature of the twentieth century which was mainly developed on the occasion of Mozart's anniversaries of 1996 and 2001. The works of Piero Rattalino, Pierluigi Panza, Ernesto Maria Sfrisio, Giovanni Scarabello David Riondino, Marta Morazzi, Alessandro Rocco and Orazio Bagnasco are interpreted as a specimen of the different relationship of invention and history in writings meant as "Triviallitteratur" or as belonging to the "high" canon of Italian literature

Il saggio è incentrato sulla presenza di Mozart e Da Ponte come personaggi di finzione nella letteratura di fine Novecento nata a margine delle celebrazioni mozartiane del 1996 e del 2001. Le opere di Piero Rattalino, Pierluigi Panza, Ernesto Maria Sfrisio, Giovanni Scarabello, David Riondino, Marta Morazzi, Alessandro Rocco e Orazio Bagnasco si offrono come specimen del diverso rapporto che intrattengono storia e invenzione in testi destinati a una fruizione "di consumo" o intesi come appartenenti a un canone più "alto"
