The present essay focuses on the Italian communist revolutionary Bruno Fortichiari, and specifically on a letter he wrote to Lev Trotsky in may 1923. The letter contains the proposal to create an Italian Military Force inside the Russian Army. As shown in the original document received from Moscow RGASPI Archive, Fotichiari’s proposal was discussed by Trotsky and other members of Politburo, whose reactions are examined in this paper. Besides this important letter, the Authors present some other documents, up to now unknown to the Italian reader, concerning the same Fortichiari, Antonio Gramsci and other leaders of the Italian Communist Party in the context of their dialogue with some Russian politicians.
