San Severino del Norico: la diffusione del culto nella penisola italica e le sue agiofanie

In my doctoral thesis, I proposed a new reading of the Vita sancti Severini (BHL 7656), a work written by the Latin monk Eugippius in 511 AD. The main objective of the work was then a historical reconstruction of the hagiography's setting: Noricum (present-day Austria). I then realised the need to better investigate the type of sanctity of the protagonist of the hagiographic tale: Severinus. This gave rise to the idea for this contribution, for which I consider the study of the peregrinatio post mortem and thus of the traces of devotion that arose along the Italic peninsula of primary importance. The translation of remains and relics from one place to another in Italy has also fuelled hagiophanies in particular moments of historical criticality, when the saint's value as a 'rescuer in time of need' was shown in all its fullness.
