The paper treats the relationship between literature and existentialism in Beppe Fenoglio’s Partigiano Johnny (1968). Although this aspect was never deeply analysed by the critics, existentialism was for Fenoglio an essential model in the writing of the novel and in the creation of a poetic model of the Resistance. Through a comparative analysis of the writings of Abbagnano, Chiodi, Heidegger and Sartre, I will at first recreate the philosophical hypotext of the Partigiano. On a textual level, I will then study how some concepts and key words (the nausea, the Angst, the Sprung, freedom, the beeing-in-the-world and the being-toward-death) of existentialism are part of Fenoglio’s philosophical vocabulary and appear in some crucial points of the novel. Eventually, after having shown how this philosophical composition was filtered through the empirical and narrative figure of Pietro Chiodi, the Partigiano Johnny will be read as the literary expression and manifestation of the being-toward-death

Abstract
Eventually, after having shown how this philosophical composition was filtered through the empirical and narrative figure of Pietro Chiodi, the Partigiano Johnny will be read as the literary expression and manifestation of the being-toward-deathFile | Dimensione del file | Formato | |
