Conoscenza e abilità: sui formati delle rappresentazioni in azione

In the last few years we have witnessed a revival of interaction between philosophy and cognitive sciences. In this context, few debates have captured as much attention as that concerning the relationship between knowledge and practical skills. In this article we propose an empirically informed conceptual framework which avoids the problems that afflict the main attempts to explain this relationship. Our proposal stands at the crossroads between philosophy and neuroscience, showing what, to quote the title of Dennett’s illuminating article is “the part of cognitive science that is philosophyµ. The literature on theoretical problems concerning action highlights the interdisciplinary nature of research in this area. This double level of analysis therefore seems perfect for the multidisciplinary framework within which this article is placed.
