On the basis of an empirical inquiry carried out at one major short-cycle tertiary education institution in Lombardy, the authors reflect on theeducational role of tutors who accompany higher technical education students during their course and in particular through their apprenticeship and traineeship’s experience. These figures undoubtedly help the learning process, which in the cases taken into consideration occurs in alternation between classroom lessons and on-the-job experience, but their function seems to be closer to coaching. They also perform mediation and facilitation tasks, which are very important both for students and the entire learning organization. More precisely, they support their tutees in the orientation process, as well in the acquisition of the professional habits. The pedagogical challenge of investing in tutoring figures is still open, not only to guarantee the educational accompaniment needed by young people entering the world of work for the first time, but also to foster the learning process directly and intentionally. The full educational and cultural – and not only occupational – enhancement of higher technical education also depends on this.
Sulla base di una ricerca empirica svolta presso un importante ITS lombardo gli autori riflettono sul ruolo educativo e formativo dei tutor che accompagnano gli studenti dell’istruzione tecnologica superiore nei percorsi di tirocinio e apprendistato. Tali figure facilitano senza dubbio gli apprendimenti, che nel caso dei corsi di studio considerati avvengono in alternanza fra lezioni d’aula ed esperienza on the job, ma la loro funzione pare avvicinarsi soprattutto a quella del coaching, a cui si sommano compiti di mediazione e facilitazione che vanno a beneficio tanto dei singoli studenti, quanto dell’intera organizzazione e comunità di apprendimento. Più precisamente essi supportano i loro tutee in un processo non sempre facile di orientamento e di acquisizione di habitus professionali indispensabili per inserirsi efficacemente nel mondo del lavoro. Rimane aperta la sfida pedagogica di investire sulle figure tutoriali non solo per garantire l’accompagnamento educativo di cui hanno bisogno giovani che si affacciano per la prima volta al mondo del lavoro, ma anche per favorire direttamente e intenzionalmente i processi di apprendimento in alternanza. La piena valorizzazione formativa e culturale – e non solo occupazionale – dell’istruzione tecnica superiore passa anche da questo.
