This article discusses the PSI’s reactions, perceptions and actions in the face of US President Nixon’s decision to unilaterally suspend the Bretton Woods system. It examines, through links with the Socialist International, how the Italian socialists tried to emerge from the crisis caused by Nixon’s decision, which must be seen as a truly global event in the early 1970s. In addition to resorting to the archive papers of the Socialist International, the article analyses the debate as it developed in the press close to the PSI and in the exchanges between its main exponents.

Abstract
This article discusses the PSI’s reactions, perceptions and actions in the face of US President Nixon’s decision to unilaterally suspend the Bretton Woods system. It examines, through links with the Socialist International, how the Italian socialists tried to emerge from the crisis caused by Nixon’s decision, which must be seen as a truly global event in the early 1970s. In addition to resorting to the archive papers of the Socialist International, the article analyses the debate as it developed in the press close to the PSI and in the exchanges between its main exponents.File | Dimensione del file | Formato | |
