The essay describes the theoretical challenges of dioramas in the contemporary Western visual paradigm, strongly questioned by post-colonial attitudes and revendications. How can dioramas still speak, if they can, in such a dense and controversial critical discourse, where traditional modes of knowledge production in museums are asked to be fully revisited, re-understood and traslated into new visions? The article tries to asnwer these questions also through of case-studies.

Abstract

The essay describes the theoretical challenges of dioramas in the contemporary Western visual paradigm, strongly questioned by post-colonial attitudes and revendications. How can dioramas still speak, if they can, in such a dense and controversial critical discourse, where traditional modes of knowledge production in museums are asked to be fully revisited, re-understood and traslated into new visions? The article tries to asnwer these questions also through of case-studies.
