Linguistic Experimentalism and Tension between Writing and Life from Gadda to Pasolini and to Ejzenštejn in the Research Work of Maurizio De Benedictis · This essay focuses on the original figure of Maurizio De Benedictis, professor at the Sapienza University of Rome for more than forty years, and author of around thirty volumes on cinema and literature; the essay shows how the perspective of his studies is highly interdisciplinary and intermedial (see the priority given to such an author as Pier Paolo Pasolini) and how his interest in linguistic experimentalism led him to work on film directors such as Ejzenštejn and on writers such as Carlo Emilo Gadda; but he also investigated the art of the actor through a ‘phenomenological’ attention to the acting of performers such as Brando or Michel Simon. Trait d’union – both in his work and life – between linguistic experimentalism, acting, but also his activity as a novelist (closely interrelated with the rest of his work) is his meditation on the relationship between art and writing on the one hand, and the notion of “life” on the other: a relationship perceived as irreconcilable and indeed intimately aporetic
