Authorsadopt the theoretical categories provided by the culture and science of their time, including its prejudices. An authentic pedagogical view – like that of Maria Montessori – is needed to avoid bending such categories to the purposes of ideological understandings of childhood and education.
Uno studio recente di Sabine Seichter vede nella pedagogia montessoriana un programma eugenetico e razzista sostanzialmente coerente con la politica educativa del Fascismo. Il contributo vuole dissipare questo sospetto, mostrando come una figura di studiosa complessa, qual era Maria Montessori, non possa essere compresa senza considerare l’intera sua opera e al di fuori del suo contesto storico-culturale. Le categorie teoriche adottate dagli autori sono inevitabilmente figlie del loro tempo, da cui ereditano anche i germi di possibili storture. Serve uno sguardo pedagogico – che certo Montessori aveva – per non piegarle agli scopi di letture ideologiche dell’infanzia e dell’educazione.
