The research community in the field of artificial organs is composed of senior scientist as well as of younger investigators, up to young scientists that recently entered in the field. The first artificial organs entered into the clinic more than 50 years ago already, and the field continued to attract biomedical engineers and medical doctors to combine their efforts and expertise for the advancement of these devices and for their clinical outcome.
