A systematic comparison has been made between two nondestructive electrochemical methods (namely, the potentiodynamic reactivation method in H//2SO//4/KSCN and the forward and reverse potentiodynamic method in HCIO//4/NaCl) for determining intergranular corrosion susceptibility of AISI 300 austenitic stainless steels. The comparison was extended to conventional oxalic acid and modified Strauss tests. The results obtained with the electrochemical methods substantially agree with those obtained in the modified Strauss test. The potentiodynamic reactivation method in H//2SO//4/KSCN appears more sensitive at low degrees of intergranular corrosion susceptibility, while the potentiodynamic method in HClO//4/NaCl shows greater reproducibility.
