The longstanding influence of Avicenna’s metaphysics in the Latin 13th cen-tury is evident from the commentaries on and summaries of Aristotelian works produced in Europe in the context of the universities and the studia. An interesting witness to this process is the series of glosses on Aristotle’s Metaphysics preserved in the manuscript Pisa, Biblioteca Cathariniana, 11. This study offers a presentation of this manuscript and the glosses that it contains, showing their connection with Thomas Aquinas’s philosophical heritage but also the role of Avicenna’s influence in the construction of a reading of the Aristotelian text they offer. This research places these glosses in a stage of the reception of Avicenna when the arguments and notions of the Persian philosopher had already become part of the philosophical heri-tage of Latin scholars.
