Taking Édouard Manet’s Olympia (1863) as its starting point, the article examines how the nude in art functions as a ‘graphic skin’ capable of both redefining identity boundaries and challenging pre-conceived norms of gender and ethnicity. A special focus is placed on the self-portraits of contemporary artists such as Katarzyna Kozyra and Yasumasa Morimura, who have reworked Manet’s painting to make it seem like a second skin to be worn, revealing the skin’s surface as the preferred place for dealing with contemporary subjectivity, caught between nature and technology.
Prendendo le mosse dall’Olympia (1863) di Édouard Manet, il saggio intende focalizzarsi sul nudo artistico inteso come ‘veste grafica’ capace di ridisegnare i confini identitari dell’individuo e mettere in discussione gli standard di genere ed etnia socialmente accettati. In particolare, saranno presi in considerazione gli autoritratti di artisti contemporanei, tra cui Katarzyna Kozyra e Yasumasa Morimura, che rielaborano il dipinto di Manet quasi fosse una seconda pelle da indossare, indicando la superficie epidermica come lo spazio privilegiato di negoziazione della soggettività odierna, a metà strada tra natura e tecnologia.
