This essay explores the characteristics of the Nachfeld in political discourse on war and peace. Building on existing literature highlighting the importance of verb-free occupation of the Nachfeld with ideological lexicon as a key rhetorical feature, the verb-free occupations of the Nachfeld with politically significant words in selected German speeches from the European parliament concerning the Russo-Ukrainian conflict will be analyzed. At the same time, the simultaneous interpretation in Italian of these speeches will be considered with the aim to identify syntactic and lexical differences and similarities, thus providing insights into how speeches are interpreted within the unique multilingual context of the European Union.
