Le «miserie umane»: percorsi di un tema mariniano

Taking as its starting point Giovan Francesco Loredan’s anecdote according to which Marino got himself noticed in a Venetian bookshop by reciting the “moral” sonnet on the Miserie umane, the essay reflects on the Venetian context and possible models of the sonnet, with some considerations on Marino’s imitation. Examining the autograph manuscript and the author’s textual variants, it then studies an episode of the sonnet’s 18th-century fortune, between Maggi, Maffei, and the «Bibliothèque italique».

Prendendo le mosse dall’aneddoto di Giovan Francesco Loredan secondo cui Marino si fece notare in una libreria veneziana recitando il sonetto “morale” sulle Miserie umane, il saggio riflette sul contesto veneziano e sui possibili modelli del sonetto, con alcune considerazioni sull’imitazione mariniana. Prendendo in esame il manoscritto autografo e le varianti d’autore, studia poi un episodio della fortuna settecentesca del sonetto, tra Maggi, Maffei, e la «Bibliothèque italique».
