This paper examines the metaphysical rhetoric of Lancelot Andrewes (1555-1626), a pivotal figure in the Anglican Church. As a renowned preacher and a key contributor to the Authorized Version of the Bible, commonly known as the King James Bible, Andrewes profoundly influenced T.S. Eliot’s poetic work, particularly regarding the theme of the Incarnation of the Logos. Eliot’s 1926 essay on Andrewes played a crucial role in re-evaluating Andrewes’ contributions. This study therefore analyzes Andrewes’ most significant Nativity sermons and meta-homiletic writings, focusing on their exploration of the interplay between faith and rhetoric.

Abstract
This paper examines the metaphysical rhetoric of Lancelot Andrewes (1555-1626), a pivotal figure in the Anglican Church. As a renowned preacher and a key contributor to the Authorized Version of the Bible, commonly known as the King James Bible, Andrewes profoundly influenced T.S. Eliot’s poetic work, particularly regarding the theme of the Incarnation of the Logos. Eliot’s 1926 essay on Andrewes played a crucial role in re-evaluating Andrewes’ contributions. This study therefore analyzes Andrewes’ most significant Nativity sermons and meta-homiletic writings, focusing on their exploration of the interplay between faith and rhetoric.| File | Dimensione del file | Formato | |
