This paper provides an analysis and discussion of the evidences from an international survey administered to almost 500 project managers working in the International Development field. The survey, as well as the analysis, aims at evaluating the adoption of methodologies and tools among project managers. Moreover, it assesses the impact of the adoption of project management practices on performance achieved by project managers. The results indicate that the adoption of project management tools is an important factor to project success, both in the short and in the long term. This indicates that the organizations that invest more on these methods are capable to improve their performance, thus it is important to increase both the awareness and the knowledge of these tools among nongovernmental organizations.
