As part of the University of Bergamo's commitment to mountain areas, particularly in the field of higher education, the Advanced Course in the Enhancement of Mountain Cultural, Landscape, and Environmental Heritage is a concrete expression of its desire to contribute to the training of qualified professionals capable of working in the protection, management, and enhancement of mountain heritage. The course aims to train professionals who are able to understand the complexity of Alpine territorial systems, interpret their resources and fragilities, and contribute, through interdisciplinary skills, to the construction of sustainable, inclusive development strategies rooted in local specificities. The course was developed in close collaboration with local government institutions, as well as professional associations of architects and engineers, and outlines a path to understanding inland mountain areas, providing cultural and operational tools for recognizing, interpreting, and enhancing the cultural, landscape, and environmental heritage that characterizes these territories. Beyond its physical and geographical dimensions, the mountain is viewed as a complex system of historical, social, economic, and environmental relationships, to be understood and planned from an integrated perspective. The training program offers an interdisciplinary approach that combines historical, territorial, environmental, and planning knowledge, allowing participants to understand the specific characteristics of places and the processes that have shaped their identity. Ample space is devoted to the themes of the regeneration of inland areas, new forms of living, and strategies for sustainable tourism development, with the aim of promoting development models capable of combining heritage protection, quality of life, and economic opportunities. Particular attention is paid to the analysis of the fragilities affecting mountain areas, with reference to hydrogeological instability and the effects of climate change. Through the observation of case studies and best practices, the concepts of adaptation and mitigation are introduced, promoting an understanding of risk and critical issues and formulating strategic lines of action.
