This essay positions itself within contemporary debates on the representation of geographic space and on ecocritical epistemologies, arguing that the "Kartizitaet"—the map-like discursivity—of "Erdkunde", the poetry collection by Marcel Beyer, unsettles dominant spatiotemporal regimes, thereby rearticulating Eastern European territories through a modality of “hybrid geography” that evokes human suffering as historically connected to the vulnerabilities and agencies of organic and inorganic matter.

Abstract

This essay positions itself within contemporary debates on the representation of geographic space and on ecocritical epistemologies, arguing that the "Kartizitaet"—the map-like discursivity—of "Erdkunde", the poetry collection by Marcel Beyer, unsettles dominant spatiotemporal regimes, thereby rearticulating Eastern European territories through a modality of “hybrid geography” that evokes human suffering as historically connected to the vulnerabilities and agencies of organic and inorganic matter.
