The decommissioning of industrial sites has initiated a complex “season” in which various actions are taken to reuse these sites. In addition to the preservation of existing structures and the construction of new buildings, some projects have chosen to combine these actions with soil desealing. This “demolition without reconstruction” has generated new permeability in soils and fostered the conditions for the creation of new green areas. The analysis of two brownfield redevelopment processes in this paper makes it possible to identify the effects of these processes and the relative variety of planning policies adopted.

Abstract

The decommissioning of industrial sites has initiated a complex “season” in which various actions are taken to reuse these sites. In addition to the preservation of existing structures and the construction of new buildings, some projects have chosen to combine these actions with soil desealing. This “demolition without reconstruction” has generated new permeability in soils and fostered the conditions for the creation of new green areas. The analysis of two brownfield redevelopment processes in this paper makes it possible to identify the effects of these processes and the relative variety of planning policies adopted.
