Claudio Napoleoni e la politica economica negli anni dell’impegno parlamentare (1976-1988)

This paper focuses on the economic policy proposals put forward by Claudio Napoleoni during his years in the Italian Parliament (1976-1988). This period was deeply marked by a loss of confidence in planning. Napoleoni approached economic policy by distinnguishing between medium- term political prospects – those that did not presuppose a departure from the capitalist mode of production and were also influenced by political contingencies such as proposals to reduce inflationary pressures or improve the management of the state budget – and long-term political prospects – those that presuppose a policy that promotes a departure from technocratic society, widening the gap between society and capitalism as much as possible. I particularly try to contextualize Napoleoni’s thoughts, taking into account his role in the Independent Left and his relationship with the Italian Communist Party.
