This chapter interprets the Orobic Alps as a mountain massif understood not only as a geomorphological unit, but also as a historical and territorial system shaped by multiscalar and reticular relations. Moving beyond the conventional view of Alpine valleys as isolated hydrographic units, it highlights the role of ridges, transversal connections, pastoral economies, proto-industrial development, and dairy networks in structuring the massif as an integrated socio-spatial system. The chapter also reflects on the need to reconnect mountain and city through a complex and relational perspective, capable of restoring the Orobic massif to an active role in contemporary territorial processes.
