The essay accounts for the discussion that occurred between Norberto Bobbio and key figures of the Italian Communist Party (especially Palmiro Togliatti) in the 1950s. This exchange is traced back to its origins: the debate within anti-fascist circles surrounding the VII Comintern Congress (1935). I argue that the argument proposed by Gaetano Salvemini—which underpinned his debate with Carlo Rosselli—illuminates the psychological stance Bobbio adopted fifteen years later during the Cold War, when addressing the relationship between culture and politics with communist intellectuals.

Abstract
The essay accounts for the discussion that occurred between Norberto Bobbio and key figures of the Italian Communist Party (especially Palmiro Togliatti) in the 1950s. This exchange is traced back to its origins: the debate within anti-fascist circles surrounding the VII Comintern Congress (1935). I argue that the argument proposed by Gaetano Salvemini—which underpinned his debate with Carlo Rosselli—illuminates the psychological stance Bobbio adopted fifteen years later during the Cold War, when addressing the relationship between culture and politics with communist intellectuals.| File | Dimensione del file | Formato | |
