This paper investigates a topic which has been up to now neglected by family business scholars, namely how the HQ-subsidiary relationship and particularly the emergence of a HQ-subsidiary perception gap is influenced by family involvement. The research design consists in a qualitative, single case research design with embedded multiple units of analysis - an Italian family-owned MNC performing two cross-border acquisitions. The findings suggest that the emergence of a HQ-subsidiary perception gap is explained by the organizational and institutional distance existing between the two actors of the dyad. Moreover, this relationship is moderated by the status differential between the HQ and the acquired subsidiary, and between the countries in which the actors are located. The paper provides some interesting contributions to the current debate on the internationalization of family firms and, more in general, on the HQ-subsidiary perception gap.

Abstract
The paper provides some interesting contributions to the current debate on the internationalization of family firms and, more in general, on the HQ-subsidiary perception gap.File | Dimensione del file | Formato | |
