This contribution studies cleft sentences in Bergamasco, a Gallo-Italian dialect. Typological studies show a tight relation between IT-clefts and contrastive focalization. In Bergamasco, however, most clefts actually focus a temporal adverbial which corresponds to a new information focus. We will show that these temporal clefts are highly grammaticalised in Bergamasco.
