This final chapter shows how the different contributions of the volume focus on types of communities across the Italian peninsula in relation with weiting practices. These can be grouped into three different types based on specific socio-cultural and linguistic historical contexts, categorised according to their raison d'être, whether professional, legal-administrative, commercial, or religious, as well as the type of authorship, be it from letter writers, professionals, or members of religious orders or associations. These communities represent different geographical, social, cultural, and political settings that arose in different regions of Italy between Late Antiquity, the Middle Ages, and the Early Renaissance.

Abstract

This final chapter shows how the different contributions of the volume focus on types of communities across the Italian peninsula in relation with weiting practices. These can be grouped into three different types based on specific socio-cultural and linguistic historical contexts, categorised according to their raison d'être, whether professional, legal-administrative, commercial, or religious, as well as the type of authorship, be it from letter writers, professionals, or members of religious orders or associations. These communities represent different geographical, social, cultural, and political settings that arose in different regions of Italy between Late Antiquity, the Middle Ages, and the Early Renaissance.
