Radici migranti: esempi di legame affettivo, identitario e reale tra migranti, oriundi italiani e terra d’origine

Italy has a strong migratory tradition and a long-lasting relationship with its emigrants and descendants, framing citizenship not only as a legal status but also as a deep transnational bond. Since the XIX century, it is possible to examine the economic, social and cultural contributions migrants and the so-called oriundi gave to their country of origin: from remittances (rimesse), participation in the World Wars, literacy and language, to contemporary forms of engagement such as associations abroad, heritage tourism, and solidarity initiatives or fundraising activities. The Italian diaspora has historically embodied enduring and multifaceted connections that shaped and still shape the national community beyond territorial boundaries.
