In an era where media images and the devices that facilitate their dissemination have become commonplace and naturalised, it is crucial to equip young people with critical and aesthetic skills to better understand and utilise these resources. This contribution highlights the theoretical and methodological frameworks offered by visual studies and media archaeology, including through practical experiences such as the Animaction project, supported by the Cinema e Immagini per la Scuola (CIPS 2022) call for proposals. The project engaged secondary school students in a journey of rediscovering the historical, cultural, and sociopolitical contexts of contemporary media experiences.
