The paper discusses the experiences o f the so-called Ossis of Color (East Germans of Color), who came to East Germany and faced significant marginalization, despite the GDR's proclaimed anti-racist and internationalist policies. By briefly analysing three (auto-)biographical works that address this topic (Abini Zöllner's Schokoladenkind, Lucia Engombe's Kind Nr. 95 and Birgit Weyhe's Madgermanes), this paper will show how these works lay the groundwork for a multidirectional memory that integrates Ossis of Color into a collective German memory and, in doing so, also challenges the traditional, predominantly white narrative of the GDR and of Germany's past.
