Intorno all'ultima serie gentiliana del 'Giornale Critico'

Gentile wanted that the second series of the "Giornale" was more than a polemical weapon in his hands, but rather a pedagogical tool, not too different from the Annali of the Scuola Normale, which he already followed at that time. Gentile wanted therefore to refer to the 'metodo storico' that he learned at the Scuola Normale, that is to the criterion of an erudition which has to be wide and up-to-date, and addressed to the real readers of the journal, that is the teachers, seen by him as an important segment of the ruling class, in the perspective of his school reform.

La seconda serie del "Giornale" fu segnata dalla volontà di Gentile di farne, più che un organo polemico e teorico, uno strumento 'pedagogico', sul modello, non molto diverso, di quello che egli già stava seguendo, da qualche anno, per gli "Annali" della Scuola Normale di Pisa. Gentile si richiama così al 'metodo storicoì appreso alla Normale, al criterio della 'erudizione', intesa come 'informazione' il più possibile 'larga' ed aggiornata, rivolta ai 'veri' destinatari della rivista, gli insegnanti, come un segmento importante della classe dirigente, nell'ottica della sua riforma della scuola.
