The relationship between Molière and the Commedia dell'Arte is well known, at least as far as the influence of Italian comedians on Molière is concerned. On the other hand, the diffusion of Molière's works in Italy between the end of the seventeenth century and the beginning of the eighteenth has not been studied to any great extent. The essay investigates this aspect, which proved essential for Goldoni's reform, taking as an example the plays of Fagiuoli, Gigli and Nelli. Readapting the works of Molière, they developed the comedy of manners and characters.
