This introduction presents Rileggere Mario De Micheli (Mimesis, 2026), the first collective reassessment of De Micheli as art critic, historian, educator and intellectual of twentieth-century Italy. Building on a 2024 conference in Milan, the volume opens a long-term research programme anchored in the archives of Fondazione Corrente and the University of Bergamo. Its essays examine his account of the avant-garde, his publishing work with Feltrinelli, his dialectical realism and role as the Communist Party's art critic, his teaching at the Politecnico di Milano, his historiography of sculpture, and his activity in Albisola. An appendix on his photographic archive and personal testimonies complete the volume, offering both a historical assessment and new perspectives for research.
