This article argues that the contemporary international system is increasingly characterized by a de facto overcoming of national borders and the traditional political categories of modernity. Building on the Schmittian concept of sovereignty and decisionism, the analysis identifies a triple dynamic of hybridization that defines modern conflict: lexical, geographical, and temporal. Firstly, the article examines the shift towards multilateral military engagements, which blurs the centrality of the nation-state’s war powers and the clear distinction between war and peace. Secondly, it explores the “depotentiation” of war lexicon. Finally, the convergence of these phenomena leads to the normalization of war and the creation of “hybrid spaces,” where the boundaries between combat zones and civilian life, between war and peace become increasingly porous. Through case studies such as the wars in Afghanistan, Iraq, Ukraine, and Gaza, as well as the militarization of domestic security in Italy via the “Strade Sicure” operation, the paper describes how this hybridization results in a pervasive, global “arc of crisis.”

Abstract
Through case studies such as the wars in Afghanistan, Iraq, Ukraine, and Gaza, as well as the militarization of domestic security in Italy via the “Strade Sicure” operation, the paper describes how this hybridization results in a pervasive, global “arc of crisis.”| File | Dimensione del file | Formato | |
