This article examines the runic signatures attributed to Cynewulf in Christ II, Elene, Juliana, and The Fates of the Apostles, exploring their linguistic, semantic, and poetic functions. Through a critical reassessment of previous scholarship, it investigates the interpretative challenges posed by individual runes and their integration into the narrative fabric of each poem. Particular attention is paid to the interplay between runic symbolism, Christian eschatology, and the poet’s self-representation. The study argues that Cynewulf’s signatures transcend mere authorial identification, functioning as integral poetic devices that connect personal reflection, spiritual transformation, and the prospect of eternal salvation.

Abstract
This article examines the runic signatures attributed to Cynewulf in Christ II, Elene, Juliana, and The Fates of the Apostles, exploring their linguistic, semantic, and poetic functions. Through a critical reassessment of previous scholarship, it investigates the interpretative challenges posed by individual runes and their integration into the narrative fabric of each poem. Particular attention is paid to the interplay between runic symbolism, Christian eschatology, and the poet’s self-representation. The study argues that Cynewulf’s signatures transcend mere authorial identification, functioning as integral poetic devices that connect personal reflection, spiritual transformation, and the prospect of eternal salvation.Pubblicazioni consigliate
