This essay deals wit the representation of the still body as a memory figure, suggesting a possible link between statuary and stardom in cinema. In female stardom, the counter-cinematic technique of the immobilization of the body reactivates the traditional topos of the eroticism of the inanimate, connecting it to hysteria and the pathologies of the modern female body; with regard to male actors, the performance of the marble figure sculpture is both a classical technique concerning the stylization of movement and a quasi-circus acrobatic which moves from vaudeville to street theatre up to contemporary flash mobs, blurring the lines between audience and performers.
