This paper deals with the problem of determine a basis of invariants for a pair of symmetric second-order tensors in the context of solid mechanics, sometimes referred as representation theorems. We have restricted ourselves to the particular case of pairs of 3 x 3 symmetric matrices, although some of the results here could be thought in a more general setting.
