L'esame d'accesso alle professioni forensi nelle riforme leopoldine

This article examines a specific phase of the admission procedure that was required to practice the legal profession in Tuscany under Peter Leo pold, namely the written examination that aspiring public prosecutors and lawyers were obliged to sit starting in 1771. Firstly, the article retraces the Medicean laws that established what was required in order to practice as a public prosecutor or lawyer. Subsequently, focus is placed on the numerous characteristics and differences in regulation that continued to exist in the various cities of the «old» state. Lastly, the articles examines Peter Leo pold’s reforms. Thanks to documents belonging to the then-newly created Conservatore delle leggi (Conservator of the laws), it is possible to identify an evolution in the written examination that undoubtedly sought to merge the roles of public prosecutor and lawyer, which in practice had already been the case for most of the courts in the Grand Duchy.
