This study presents theoretical and empirical evidence of co-production in the health and social care domain. There is currently considerable debate on this topic. Adopting Osborne and Strokosch’s (2013) approach, the chapter essentially proposes three recommendations to orient future investigations in this area. The first refers to the relational approach. Worthy of attention in this domain is the intrinsic and ongoing interaction among actors. Theories and methodologies based on this assumption could frame further investigations. The second recommendation is based on a systematization of factors related to co-production in action at different levels of analysis. The study provides a framework in which scholars, practitioners could pinpoint actions, processes, structures, and intangible aspects (i.e., factors) related to co-production at operational level and strategic level. Moreover, the framework considers peculiar factors (i.e., intertwined factors) that enhance co-production at both levels. Exploiting the potentialities to encapsulate theoretical factors in this framework, future inquiries could promote transformational change in public services. Thus, the focus on innovative ways to create and deliver a public service is the third recommendation of the chapter. The exploration of an Italian residential care home nurtures the theoretical analysis. Methods applied to the empirical analysis mostly follow the relational approach.
