The earthquake that significantly hit the Emilia region in 2012 caused extensive damage in industrial buildings, e- specially in the case of precast concrete structures. Starting from the equations of motion associated to the pendulum load of overhe- ad cranes, the present article aims to investigate the influence of the overhead crane and its suspended load in the seismic response of an industrial building. Finally, the paper provides considerations on how to model the crane and the suspended load for seismic vulnerability analyses.
