Tests were carried out on steel API 5L X65 in seawater at free corrosion potentials and under cathodic protection conditions. Results show that this technique is suitable for stress corrosion cracking phenomena that can take place under dynamic conditions. Data were analyzed to obtain the rising load crack growth threshold parameter. Comparison is made with crack growth corrosion fatigue tests.

Abstract

Tests were carried out on steel API 5L X65 in seawater at free corrosion potentials and under cathodic protection conditions. Results show that this technique is suitable for stress corrosion cracking phenomena that can take place under dynamic conditions. Data were analyzed to obtain the rising load crack growth threshold parameter. Comparison is made with crack growth corrosion fatigue tests.
