MacIntyre opens up the possibility of a new and interesting interpretive perspective on contemporary history, which is characterised by its inability to resist evil, especially when this evil has the deceptive but persuasive appearance of an ideology. It is not the case that constancy and integrity are the two virtues peculiar to those ‘righteous’ who, in the last century, could resist ideological evil. From the point of view of MacIntyre, constancy and integrity arise and develop through the exercise of discourse—of that logos that never stops to ask questions about the order of the goods within a community of research. And this fact points to the prospect of an intelligent revival of the tradition of the natural law, when this is understood as a rational law, as a law that enjoins the achievement of the human good as bonum rationis; that is, as the good of reason, for reason, and formulated by reason.
