The paper examines, moving mainly from the analysis of the recent Austrian experience of the presidential elections of 2016, some theoretical, historical and comparative characteristics of populism(s). This, in order to identify the possible influences of the populist phenomenon on the party systems, on one side, and on the forms of State and forms of government, on the other side.
