The Italian Ministry of Education has launched an important plan to finance research projects developed by schools to solve specific problems involving accessibility to technology and to educational activities by students with disabilities when using their Assistive Technologies. The initiative is part of an extensive national training and support plan, called “New Technologies and Disability”, implemented from 2006 to the present. Twenty-six schools, in a co-operative effort with universities and private firms, are working to develop an equal number of products aimed at solving difficult - and quite specific - situations in the field of accessibility for which the best commercial solutions must still be found.

Abstract

The Italian Ministry of Education has launched an important plan to finance research projects developed by schools to solve specific problems involving accessibility to technology and to educational activities by students with disabilities when using their Assistive Technologies. The initiative is part of an extensive national training and support plan, called “New Technologies and Disability”, implemented from 2006 to the present. Twenty-six schools, in a co-operative effort with universities and private firms, are working to develop an equal number of products aimed at solving difficult - and quite specific - situations in the field of accessibility for which the best commercial solutions must still be found.
