The traditional format of academic teaching in Italy is mainly characterised by a monologic style. As outlined in the euroWiss-Project the major purpose of this kind of knowledge mediation is transfer and consolidation of canonised knowledge. In linguistic terms it consists of a concatenation of speech actions. The article provides some insights into this teaching/learning discourse by giving an overview on practices of knowledge transfer, related linguistic actions and (pre)academic writing by Italian students of German.
